Syreeta’s journey into the world of birth support began with a personal revelation. Her own experience as a mother navigating the complexities of pregnancy and childbirth ignited a passion within her—a passion to ensure that no woman would have to face the challenges alone. This passion evolved into Kangaroo Birthing & Maternity Concierge, a doula service that seeks to empower women through informed choices, compassionate care, and unwavering support.

As a birth doula, Syreeta found herself at the intersection of intimate narratives and systemic issues within the maternity care system. Witnessing firsthand the disparities faced by Black women during pregnancy and childbirth, she recognized the need to amplify these stories on a broader scale.

In the heart of Pittsburgh, a team of birth workers, lay mothers and health professionals and one dedicated filmmaker is embarking on a powerful journey to unveil the untold stories surrounding maternal health, focusing particularly on the challenges faced by Black women.

Her Dreams is more than a documentary; it is a call to action, a plea for empathy, and a demand for change. Through the lens of these compelling narratives, the film aims to ignite conversations, provoke thought, and mobilize communities towards a collective commitment to dismantling the systemic barriers that perpetuate racial disparities in maternal health.

As a birth doula I found myself at the intersection of intimate narratives and systemic issues within the maternity care system. Witnessing firsthand the disparities faced by women that look like me during their most vulnerable time. It was an inner call that the voices of black women needed to be amplified.
